The quality of your smile can affect your work life, social life, romantic life .

People who smile more are regarded as more positive, competent and lead a more positive and happy life.

Improving your smile can open doors to more opportunities , make you feel happier and more fulfilled in life.

As a Dentist and Facial Aesthetician i know more than most on how to create a great smile and how to look after your smile.

Teeth

Brush your teeth twice a day and correctly. I recommend using an electric brush such as Philips Sonicare.

Try using David’s botanically infused from Goop, ultra pure toothpaste detoxifies and fight bacteria without Fluoride . Even the tube is 100% recyclable unlike conventional toothpastes with their laminated tubes that end up on landfill. Avoid smokers toothpaste as these contain abrasive agents that will wear your enamel.

Floss your teeth at least once per day . Unhealthy gums have been linked to miscarriage, heart disease and gut problems. Try Coco floss , clean refreshing and non toxic.

Avoid foods and drinks that are bad for your teeth. High sugar and high acid can eat away at your enamel and cause tooth decay for example, energy drinks, vinegar, fizzy drinks, sticky sweets.

Get regular check ups at the Dentist. Even if you don’t have problems, it’s always best to catch things early. Your dentist will be screening for cavities, oral cancer and gum disease. Check ups are exactly that screening not for existing problems and you Dentist may be able to advise you and point you in the right direction so as to prevent issues as many dental issues are reversible if tackled early enough.

Consider professionally whitening your teeth. We use the Enlighten method at The Chloë Edit , custom made trays and enlighten gel are used to achieve bright , white teeth, increasing confidence and improving appearance.

Consult your dentist if you are really uncomfortable with your teeth . There are so many options available now, braces, invisalign, veneers, crowns, implants.

Lips

Drink water . Staying hydrated will keep your lips smooth and prevent chapping.

Avoid licking your lips , The acid in your saliva can irritate your lips and removes natural oils that protect your lips.

Avoid smoking. It goes without saying that smoking will have an adverse effect on your lips, it can cause darkening, thinning and wrinkles.

A great lip balm is essential. This super delicate area can suffer and since you ingest a lot of lip balm it’s important to be using a clean one,  like CLO CLO Lip Edition Packed with nourishing ingredients shea butter and healing spearmint . CLO CLO Lip Edition strengthens lips by stimulating growth of new cells, increasing resistance and elasticity. It will leave your lips nourished and dehydrated for long periods.

Regularly exfoliate lips, approx weekly, you can use your tooth brush to ‘brush lips’ or mix some sugar in to the balm to create a homemade scrub.

Consider lip filler. Natural looking results using Juvederm Volbella or Juvederm Smile will leave your lips looking  plump as the hyaluronic acid ( sugar ) filler will attract water improving appearance of lips keeping them looking smooth. Will reduce need for overlining lipliner to achieve that fuller look and may just require lip balm to give that natural look. Lip filler can correct any asymmetry too so if you’re unhappy with shape definitely the answer .

Colour your lips . Lipstick and lip gloss can give your smile the final wow factor. Choose a shade that complements your skin tone. Dark lipsticks can make lips look thinner so stick to lighter shades if you have thin lips. Matte lipsticks can be drying so stick with moisturising, creamy lipsticks if you suffer from dry lips. I like the Inika Certified Organic Vegan Lipstick which now come in 14 shades.
