The multi-purpose treatment that targets everything from collagen decline, acne scars to hair loss. By Dr Eloise

We can’t stop talking about the benefits of microneedling at Eighth & Eden. The minimally invasive treatment can be used all over the body—from scalp to ankles—to improve the appearance of acne scars, boost collagen, reduce pigmentation,  pores and wrinkles and improve the appearance of stretch marks and scarring. It can even encourage hair growth!

So What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling creates microscopic punctures in the skin. Simply put, microneedling is the insertion of very fine needles into the skin for rejuvenation, explains Dr Eloise. The micro-injuries to the upper surface of the skin signals the body to produce collagen to remodel the damaged area, rejuvenating the skin, making your skin look younger and fresher. In clinic we use a microneedling dermapen, comprising of micro-fine needles that can be adjusted in depth from 0.25 to 2.5  millimetres. This is a much more advanced and effective method for skin rejuvenation than the traditional derma roller devices.

But, if the prospect of multiple needle wounds sounds slightly ominous to you, know that the punctures are more like pin-pricks that enter only surface-level deep. The benefit of getting microneedling in clinic is that it can be done to greater depths which makes it more efficacious.

Microneedling Offers Fairly Immediate Results.

New collagen production will begin within 48 hours and your skin will already feel tighter within this time. You will look plump and luminous. Its important to look after your skin during this time-we recommend using a gentle cleaner, moisturiser and SPF.

Microneedling Also Promises Improvement Over Time.

“It plumps the skin and makes the skin look more radiant, with results becoming increasingly apparent over the coming weeks.” Dr Eloise says.  According to a 2008 study, skin treated with four microneedling sessions spaced one month apart, produced up to a 400% increase in collagen and elastin six months after completing treatment.

You Can Supercharge It With A Serum.

“I love using a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid, such as SkinCeuticals® Hydrating B5, during treatment,” Dr Eloise says. “I revel in the opportunity to drive in hydration. Antioxidants and Mesotox (a serum which mimics Botox giving an all over glow) are favourites as well.” We tailor a bespoke cocktail of serums best suited to your individual needs to help achieve your glowing skin goals.

Complement Other Treatments.

Microneedling is the perfect complement to other treatments such as chemical peels, injectables and Ultraformer® III HIFU to help you feel and look your best.  Combining therapies amplifies the effects of both treatments.  For instance, HIFU targets deep tissue, imagine a sheet being pulled taught which provides a base for the more superficial layers that microneedling treats.
